£12k raised for charity just in eight days
A massive £12,000 has been raised for charity at Cowes Yacht Haven in the space of just eight days.
The Isle of Wight events venue and marina has hosted a number of charity events over the last two weeks for various causes. On November 26 the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce, Tourism and Industry’s Business Awards for Excellence took place in the Events Centre, where a raffle was held in aid of LACES (Looked After Children Education Service).
The following day a party night was held at the same venue in aid of the Earl Mountbatten Hospice and the Barely Born Appeal. DECADeANCE, organised by island DJ, Tony Martin, raised £5,100 for the two Isle of Wight charities.
On Saturday, December 5, Hampshire Constabulary held a Black Tie Charity Ball and raised more than £6,000 for The Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign, The Gurney Fund for Police Orphans and Motor Neurone Disease. A further £168 was raised for the Wessex Cancer Trust.
The money was raised through a raffle, tombola and auction, which included lots such as a day sailing for two people during Cowes Week 2010 and a week’s accommodation in a converted barn in the Dordogne that sleeps up to 18 people. The event was held in memory of Sergeant Penny Deacon, who died earlier this year after battling cancer.
Ian Gregory, Events Centre Manager at Cowes Yacht Haven, said: “It is incredible that so much money has been raised for charity here in just eight days. As the Events Centre Manager I come into contact with a lot of dedicated people and I see first hand how much time and effort they put into organising events in order to benefit others. Everyone at Cowes Yacht Haven is delighted to be involved in making sure these events happen and raise as much money for charity as possible.”
Throughout 2009 Cowes Yacht Haven has helped to raise tens of thousands of pounds for a variety of charities.
